Ma Petit Amoeba

I don't mind being referred to as an amoeba, as long as it's used as a term of endearment and not a bizarre insult. The first known asexual group was called Haven for the Human Amoeba, afterall. (Does anyone think there were other, pre-internet groups of asexual people, who didn't use the word "asexual"? I'm tempted to think there were...much like how we don't know if there's life on other planets, but there probably is just because there's so many planets.)
Anyway, I thought the asexy community would get a chuckle out of this shirt:

Amoeba with a monocle!

In Spanish popular culture, amoeba is used almost exclusively for comparison of intelligence. "This guy has lower IQ than an amoeba," might be translated.

My guess is there were social circles with a large grouping of people who didn't identify, maybe they used the word maybe not but they didn't want sex. They are likely more apt to be accepted by nerds, geeks, goths, and other groups that are outcasts.

Good to know, I'll remember to not refer to any Spanish aces as amoebas!
I agree that there are always groups where "different" people feel more comfortable. Two groups we talked about here that I think might have appealed to asexuals of the past were Shakers and radical feminists who were "political lesbians".

Haha, too bad it's a paramecium. I have too many sciencey friends to say that's an ameoba and go unscathed.

I don't mind ameoba. I've never seen it as anything but endearing. But I hate the 'I wish my homework was asexual so it would do itself!' thing. That's not only wrong, it's double wrong! No meaning of asexual means that!

...but then again, 'I wish my homework was autosexual' sounds a little bit weirder.

I believe that would be SIR Paramecium ;-)
